  • I recently as able to decrease my hours at my "real job"  YEAH!  As a single mom, I never thought I would be able to do that just to try to make MY dreams come true.  But now I have time to dedicate to growing farmhouse INSPIRED!!  I am so thankful and appreciative of my friends and family (THANKS GIRLS!!!!!!!!) that have shown me support and provided encouragment....Now I just need strength and faith!!  In the short time that I have decreased my hours, I have been able to get a few things accomplished.  Some I am even ready to share!
    • I purchased a logo!  It was so easy!  I found one on etsy.com, had them tweak the colos and change the font and now I am all set.  I love it.  I have ordered new business cards and am looking for other ways to use my new "brand".  I tried (TWICE!) to put it here, but both times I lost all of my post, so I am NOT going to try that again!  I want to use it here and on facebook, but I need a few more technical skills first!
    • I have secured a workspace!!  I want to be able to offer classes, but space has always been an issue.  I recently rent a small portion of the back storage room at Riverwalk.  I am working on making it a bit more cozy and adding adequate light and such.  The first class is sceheduled for next week!  I just added a page on this website describing the classes and such.  Take a look and let me know what you think!
    • Tuesday I am teaching a community education class in Hudson!  I have always wanted to do this!  I filled out a proposal form and they accepted me.  My class is on Tuesday and I have 5 victims...I mean participants!  Wish me luck!   I also will be teaching one in River Falls in June.
    • I have begun doing custom work...again something I always wanted to do!  It is challenging to try to determine what the customer really wants and then make it happen.  Challenging, but fun!
    • I moved my space within Riverwalk Art & Antiques.  The new spot is a little bit bigger and off in the corner.  At first I loved the idea of being in the corner, a bit seperated from the others, but I am kinda feeling like I am "In the Corner" (does that make sense??) and that no one is finding me.  I guess I just have to wait and see!
    • I participated in Home Essentials Boutique.  I have been a faithful attendee for many years and have always thought Deb Leier did an amazing job.  So I got up enough courage and contacted her.  She allowed me to bring a few pieces in for her last weekend of the Spring Sale.  I only sold one table, but I will have some things ready for the June Sale.
    • I guess that's it for now, but there is definately more to come!!

My work  friend, Joanie wanted me to find her a BIG headboard.  She wanted it to be a "statement piece".  Then she wanted it to look like old world elegance.  And it needed to be queen size.  Kinda a tall order!  Especially since queen size is a relatively modern size.   After a couple of weeks of looking, I happened upon this beauty.

Just look at those details!  Joanie loved it!  Now on to color choices......

After looking on Pintrest and other internet sites and doing a couple samples boards, she decided on CeCe Caldwell's Paints in Seattle Mist.

This picture is after the first coat of paint.  Yes, I am painting in my kitchen!  That is my only choice in the frigid Wisconsin winter.  My paint would probably freeze if I tried painting in the garage!  That's one of the cool things about CeCe's paint...no VOCs and very little odor.  And you can watch it dry!

You can see it goes on pretty dark and then it lightens as it dries.  Must be all those minerals, chalk and clay in the paint.

After the second coat of paint dried, I sanded with 220 grit sandpaper and applied CeCe Caldwell's clear wax.

Here are a couple close ups of some of the details of the headboard.

And here is a picture of the FINAL product in it's new home!!  (I requested a better picture...will update when I receive it.)  She was VERY HAPPY!!
